The Insiders Guide to Las Vegas

Getting There - Transportation Secret Deals

This page will go over everything you need to know about flying to, and getting around, Las Vegas. Hopefully these tips and tricks will save you some time and money.

Did you know that if you are only using websites like Expedia to search for flights, you’re not seeing every airline that’s available? Instead, try using Google Flights. It has a great map tool that will compare costs to fly from multiple cities at once.

Once you arrive in Vegas, you’ll have many choices on how to get to your hotel. Avoid the shuttles at all costs. They are more expensive than any other option unless you are traveling as a single person, and even then it’s not worth it because they make multiple stops and there are simply better methods to get to your destination.

Rent a car only if you are planning to go to a far off destination like the Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon during your stay. There are many ways to get around the Strip and driving is actually much harder. If you do plan on getting a rental car, you have to get on an airport shuttle bus to get to the car rental area and returning the car can be a real chore, so you should budget at least an extra hour to return your car when leaving.

The taxi lines can be very long and again, not one of the preferred transportation methods, but it works. It will cost you about $20 plus tip to get to the Strip. There are also limos standing by that can usually seat up to 8 people and will run about $40 plus tip.

The most preferred method to get to the Strip is either Uber or Lyft. Follow the signs to the Ride Sharing area which will be past the baggage claim into the parking garage on Level 2B. It’s the fastest, cheapest way to get to your hotel and will cost about $15 to any location on the Strip.

Once on the Strip, the best way to get around is either walking or Uber and Lyft. The Rio used to have free shuttles running to the strip, but no longer. Some other off-strip hotels have free shuttles like the the Palms, but they are typically reserved for their hotel guests only. You could try a bus or the Monorail, but ride sharing has really made it cheap and fast to get around.
